At Great Heights English Hub, we provide expert support and high-quality continuing professional development (CPD) to help schools strengthen the teaching of early language, reading and writing.
Great Heights English Hub is based at The Greetland Academy and we work with schools in Calderdale, Kirklees and Leeds. The September 2027 expansion of the English Hub programme will mean that we can support with literacy, language, phonics and reading from Reception through to KS3.
Working in partnership with schools, we offer tailored support to improve literacy outcomes from the Early Years through to Key Stage 3. Our experienced Literacy Specialists provide bespoke guidance, support and access to evidence-informed CPD to help schools enhance their reading provision, embed effective practice, and achieve lasting improvements.
We help schools develop children’s vocabulary, communication and language skills through evidence-based approaches that close the word gap and build strong foundations for reading and writing. We also support the effective use of formative assessment in Early Years settings.
We promote high-quality, systematic synthetic phonics teaching, and as the foundation of reading across the primary years.
Our support includes:
• Embedding fidelity to a validated systematic synthetic phonics programme.
• Using fully decodable books to develop confident, fluent readers.
• Strengthening phonics teaching through effective formative assessment and evidence-based practice.
We support schools in creating a lifelong love of reading by developing whole-school reading cultures, by promoting daily story time, encouraging reading at home, strengthening reading fluency, and expanding teachers’ knowledge of high-quality children’s literature.
At Great Heights English Hub, our mission is to help every child become a confident, fluent reader by equipping schools with the expertise, resources and professional development they need to deliver excellent early literacy teaching.
